EXTERIOR

Betty benefited from a full repaint in Old English White as part of her comprehensive 2014 restoration by Retford Classic Cars. Whilst now an older restoration, she still presents in lovely overall condition, with even panel gaps and no visible signs of corrosion, but with some age related marks.  She has previously taken 1st Place in the Two-Door Saloon class with the MMOC Malvern Hills Branch.

INTERIOR & EQUIPMENT

A new interior was fitted during the 2014 restoration. The tan vinyl seats and door cards are in excellent condition, compliment the Old English White exterior and contrast nicely with the black carpeting.  The centrally placed speedo, with fuel gauge, is flanked either side by twin glove boxes.  Pull toggles below the speedo operate the choke, lights, wiper and starter, all helpfully labelled. Additional ammeter and oil temperature gauges add  useful monitoring whilst retaining Betty’s period charm, are joined by a period Smith’s clock. In addition, a 12v “cigarette lighter” style power outlet has been fitted just below the dash on the passenger’s side, adding the ability to plug in smart phones, etc. Finally, the original 3 spoke Banjo steering wheel sets off what overall is a charming interior.

ENGINE, TRANSMISSION & SUSPENSION

Betty’s 948cc A-series engine was fully rebuilt as part of the 2014 restoration. The documented history file contains the full list of parts that went into the restoration by Retford Classic Cars, which runs to 4 pages of A4 (see the “Documented History” section below). Further specialist work has since been carried out by Charles Ware’s Morris Minor Centre, including the fitting of electronic ignition. A recent exhaust system has also been fitted.

WHEELS, BRAKES & TYRES

Betty has been upgraded with a front disc brake conversion and brake servo, both carried out by Charles Ware’s Morris Minor Centre.  She sits on body coloured painted steel wheels with chrome hub caps, all in very good condition. The wheels wear matching Nankang CX 668 Low Noise tyres in 155/80 R14 all round and all show significant tread left.  The spare comes with the same tyre as the driven wheels and the car comes with its original jack.
