1993 Range Rover Vogue SE Limited Edition

VEHICLE OVERVIEW

This is a very rare limited edition being 1 of only 40 made in British Racing Green and fitted with gold decals and coach lines, from factory.

It was built in December 1993, the last month of the “hard dash” Range Rover production and as such, is one of the last of the hard dash models recognisable from the KA chassis suffix, indicating the 1994 model year. Later Range Rover Classics launched in March 2004 (the 1995 model year) would feature the so called “soft dash” from the Land Rover Discovery, which to many enthusiasts is less desirable, as it lost connection to the original Range Rover’s dashboard layout.

Effectively a “run out” model before the introduction of the new “soft dash” model, the car featured many options only available on the newer model. This included air suspension, TWR 5 spoke alloy wheels and a “Lightstone” leather interior. As a highly specified car, it also has been fitted with, ABS, air conditioning, heated, electric and memory front seats, electric door mirrors, electric windows, electric sunroof, cruise control and an upgraded OEM In Car Entertainment system, 6 CD changer and sub-woofer.

Fully restored by Kingsley Cars in 2013, its engine (then at approximately 109K miles) was also replaced with one of their brand new “Top-Hat-Liner” 3. 9 litre fully balanced and blue printed engines, built by a recognised Rover V8 engine specialist.

With little history of the car prior to its purchase in 2014, we do know that the previous owner purchased the car new, as a company car, from the supplying dealer in 1995, who had registered the car but not sold it. He kept it when the company was sold and re-registered it in his name. The car was then sold to the next owner in 2014 and the car has just been transferred into his wife’s name, following his passing. As such, it is effectively a 3 owner car, albeit, 2 in the same family.

From 2014 onward, the car comes with a very detailed history, showcasing annual services up to the most recent one in March 2025, along with thorough records and invoices for all work completed from 2014 to date, which are extensive.

The vehicle has been meticulously maintained without regard to expense and is in excellent condition both internally and externally, as well as underneath, having recently undergone our thorough underbody preservation treatment. The MOT is valid until March 2026 and the car comes with its model related private registration number, included with the sale.

With Range Rover Classics now becoming very much sought after, this stunning and rare example, represents a great opportunity for both enthusiast or collector alike.

EXTERIOR

Presented in Metallic British Racing Green (“BRG”) pearlescent colour, this Range Rover Classic, is an extremely rare limited edition, with only 100 made of this type which is based on the standard “hard dash” Vogue SE, but with special additions. 60 were made in Beluga Black and just 40 in BRG, all with gold script decals and coach lines (as used on some USA special editions).

The car went through a comprehensive restoration in 2013 by Kingsley Cars based in Witney Oxfordshire, well known Land Rover and Range Rover specialists. This included removal of any corrosion and a high quality “panel off respray”.  All cavities were wax injected, upper tailgate replaced and the underside cleaned and then treated to Dinitrol underbody protection.

In 2015 the gold decals and coach lines were re-instated, as per factory specification.

In 2016 the sunroof system was removed and completely rebuilt.

In 2024, the paintwork was once again addressed, due to the emergence of some slight micro-blistering. This treatment included necessary repairs and repainting to ensure a perfect colour match across all panels. Concurrently, minor rust repairs were conducted on the underfloor body seams and one inner wheel arch, followed by additional localised Dinitrol underbody protection, applied post-repair. This work was carried out by Twenty Ten Engineering of Redditch, another specialist in Classic Range Rovers.

Having recently undergone our pre-sales detailing process, the vehicle’s paintwork is in excellent condition across all panels, with only some small dents on the roof, slightly detracting from what could otherwise be considered as "show" condition.

INTERIOR & EQUIPMENT

The interior presents a delightful blend of 90s opulence, featuring wood veneer, leather seating, and carpeted door cards, alongside analogue functionality. This is characterised by push-button or sliding lever switchgear for the primary dashboard controls (no touch screens here!). The "Lightstone" leather interior was exclusive to this limited edition, as it was not available on any other UK "hard dash" model. While the seats bear a resemblance to the Vogue SE seats found in the subsequent "soft dash" model, a more detailed examination shows that these seats are distinctive to this limited edition.

The front seats, which are heated, electric and equipped with a driver’s side memory function, were completely re-trimmed in 2015 and still present as new, with the rear split folding seats appearing hardly used. All wood veneers are in superb condition, showing no signs of cracks or lacquer peeling. All dashboard plastics remain free from fading or cracks and all instruments, switches, and controls for the air suspension, air conditioning, seats, door mirrors, windows, roof and cruise control function properly.

The air conditioning system underwent a complete rebuild in 2019, with the fitting of a new compressor and receiver/dryer.

The headlining is in excellent condition, having been replaced and all carpets, including the boot carpeting, are in very good condition. A rare set of original factory over mats is also included for both the front and back seat footwells.

The vehicle is equipped with an upgraded Range Rover radio/cd/tape player, along with an OEM 6 CD player and a sub-woofer installed in the boot.

The split folding rear hatch allows for versatile access to the boot area, which contains the spare wheel and OEM wheel removal tools and bottle jack.

ENGINE, TRANSMISSION & SUSPENSION

In the course of the restoration undertaken in 2013, it was discovered that the existing engine, which had been converted to LPG, was damaged.

Kingsley replaced it with one of their brand new "Top-Hat-Liner" 3.9i engines, which was fully balanced, blueprinted and had the heads completely rebuilt and gas flowed to match the engine specifications. The engine assembly was performed by a well-known specialist in Rover V8 engines on behalf of Kingsley. The engine was replaced after the car had covered approximately 109,000 miles since new, meaning it has now travelled around 13,000 miles since the replacement.

Whilst there is no maintenance history available for the vehicle prior to the current owner's acquisition in 2014, the document history file contains comprehensive records of service, maintenance, and parts from 2014 to date. The work performed includes annual servicing, with the latest service completed in March 2025. The air suspension system was entirely renewed in 2018, which involved the installation of new OEM Dunlop suspension units all around, replacement of all air lines, refurbishment of the air suspension valve block, and fitting of a new air suspension compressor.

The air suspension set-up provides for a much more comfortable ride than the standard coil spring and damper set-up.  It operates flawlessly, rising to driving height shortly after the vehicle is started and offers both higher and lower settings, which can be activated via buttons on the dashboard.

The vehicle operates in permanent four-wheel drive and is equipped with both high and low ratios, along with a chain-driven Borg Warner transfer box, that features an automatic viscous coupling. This system automatically redistributes torque between the front and rear axles, when one set of wheels begins to slip. This effectively provides a limited-slip function, that enhances traction on slippery surfaces without the need for manual diff lock selection, which was necessary in earlier versions of transmissions used in Range Rover models.

The four-speed automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and performs kick-downs as expected.

Lastly, the invoice history confirms a front axle rebuild with new swivel cups, a replacement exhaust system in recent years, as well as a new plastic fuel tank, fuel pump and new fuel lines.

WHEELS, BRAKES & TYRES

The car sits TWR 16” alloy wheels which have been restored to as new OEM standard by a specialist. All have matching  OEM 205/80 R16 Michelin X M+S tyres and all with significant tread left.  The spare is identical to the driven wheels and is unused. All tyres are dated 2020.

Disc brakes are fitted all round and operate as they should.  All four discs and pads have been replaced and the ABS Pump and accumulator also replaced in 2018.

UNDERSIDE

As part of the pre-sales preparation, the entire underside was thoroughly cleaned and inspected.

The chassis, which had previously been protected, was found to be mostly free from all but minor surface corrosion in a few areas.

Any areas of surface corrosion on the chassis or mechanical components were wire brushed and treated with a rust converter.

After removing any peeling underside protection, the chassis, front and rear axles, engine sump cover, front and rear radius arms, prop shaft, torque converter housing, petrol tank carrier, towing bracket and brake disc covers were coated with Dinitrol 4941. This a long lasting self healing underbody anti-rust protector.

Additionally, the internal box sections of the chassis were cavity injected with Dinitrol ML cavity wax.

Finally, the mechanical components, including the brake callipers, sump, gearbox and transfer box casings, were meticulously treated with multiple coatings of clear wax DINITROL 4010 high-temperature automotive rust prevention and corrosion protection wax.

Lastly, any areas that were inaccessible for brush coating were sprayed with a layer of Lanoguard automotive rust treatment.

Consequently, the underside preservation treatment offers the vehicle comprehensive and exceptionally durable, jet wash-proof corrosion protection, even when used year-round or off-road, as some Range Rovers occasionally experience.
