VEHICLE OVERVIEW

The Land Rover Discovery II, built between 1998 and 2004, featured some 720 changes from the original 1st generation Discovery. Most were fitted the 2.5 litre TD5 diesel engine, however, a 4.0 litre V8 petrol engine from the P38 Range Rover was also an option.  This exceptional low mileage example showing just 25,688 miles from new, is fitted with this engine, mated to a four speed automatic gearbox with switchable modes.

Presented in Blenheim Silver Metallic, with a Light Smokestone Grey cloth interior, it presents almost as new, belying the fact that it is now some 26 year old.

In GS specification, it is a full forward facing 7 seater station wagon and features twin sunroofs.

It is comes with its original dealer-issued book pack, stamped service record and a file of previous MOT certificates, verifying its low-mileage provenance. In addition, Its documents folder, contains comprehensive service and maintenance invoices dating back to 2001 and even includes the original bill of sale, from the supplying dealer, Hollingdrake of Stockport.

It has recently benefitted from both a professional detailing and ceramic coating, as well as comprehensive underbody preservation treatment.

With petrol-powered Discoveries now increasingly sought after, this time-warp Series II V8 is a rare opportunity to acquire an very low mileage, exceptionally preserved and highly original example, with an outstanding history.

EXTERIOR

Presented in Blenheim Silver Metallic, the body work is in exceptional condition. Panel gaps are factory tight, there are no signs of corrosion anywhere, the paintwork presents as original and holds lustrous shine. All bumper, side and wheel arch trims are unmarked and unfaded, as are all scripts and badging. Window rubbers are all free from any cracking. Glass all round is tinted and in excellent condition, as are all lights. The car is fitted with OEM mudflaps all round, a tow bar with electrics and a rear foldable step.  The rear door has a heated rear window and is fitted with a windscreen wiper and washer jet.

INTERIOR & EQUIPMENT

As the GS model, the interior is cloth in a Light Smokestone Grey cloth, offset by Dark Smokestone plastics on the dash, cubby box, and door trims. Charcoal grey carpets in the front, middle and rear load area, provides a well matched contrast to the Smokestone interior.  As a 7 seater station wagon, it makes for very versatile seating configurations, with 2 front seats, a bench of 3 split folding middle-row seats and 2 individual drop down and fold away chairs in the rear load area. All seats fitted are with inertia reel seat belting.

The seating is all in excellent condition, as are the carpets, protected in the front and middle and rear load area by Land Rover rubber over mats.

As an GS specification model, the car comes standard with electric front and rear windows, central locking, electric door mirrors, cruise control, heated rear windscreens and radio/cassette player.  It also benefits from twin sun roofs.

ENGINE, TRANSMISSION & SUSPENSION

The car is fitted with the 4.0 litre “Thor” V8 fuel injected petrol engine, as used in the Range Rover P38.  A rare find these days as most cars were specified with the 2.5 litre Tdi engine. The engine provides plenty of low down torque which makes for effortless driving and is  accompanied with a muted, but lovely V8 burble.

Whilst unlikely to win any “traffic light” Grand Prix, in V8 form, the Discovery makes for a refined and relaxed cruiser, easily able to sustain motorway speeds, carrying 7 adults. It’s also a very capable towing vehicle and much less strained and agricultural to drive, than the smaller capacity diesel engined alternative.

The 4 speed automatic gearbox provides smooth shifts and has a “modes” button that allows you to select “Sport”, in normal driving. With “Sport” mode selected, the gearbox is more responsive to accelerator pedal movement, downshifts occur earlier and upshifts are delayed, to make optimum use of the engine's power while accelerating.

A secondary lever in front of the automatic gear selector, allows for the selection of “High” and “Low” range.  When Low Range is selected, it also possible to use the modes button to engage “Manual” mode, this restricts the gearbox from automatically upshifting past the gear you've physically selected.

The car is also fitted with  traction control and hill descent control. This utilises its Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to power both control systems. Together, these electronic systems take over braking and throttle management to keep the vehicle steady and moving safely over challenging, steep, or slippery terrain.

Finally, the car is fitted with a factory Self-Levelling Suspension (SLS) system exclusively on the rear axle. Rather than traditional coil springs, this setup utilizes heavy-duty rubber air bags controlled by an onboard compressor, valve block, and ride-height sensors.

It provides for a number of features that include:

  • Automatic Levelling: The system automatically adjusts air pressure when the doors are closed to maintain a level stance under heavy cargo or towing loads; and
  • Dashboard Control: An off-road switch on the dashboard allows you to manually raise the rear by roughly 60mm for increased ground clearance at low speeds.

WHEELS, BRAKES & TYRES

The car sits on factory 16” 5 spoke alloy wheels, fitted with 235/70 R16 Goodyear tyres, all with significant tread left.  The spare is identical to the driven wheels and is unused.

Brakes are discs, fitted all round and operate as they should.

The car comes with its original jack and wheel brace, as well its locking wheel nut socket.

UNDERSIDE

Invoice receipts identify that the car’s underside was subject to a professional clean and Lanoguard protection in January 2026.

This additional layer of protection allows for more durable protection for the car which is (jet wash proof), than the standard factory finish.
