Launched in 1993, the Type 916 GTV designed by Pininfarina, won a number of awards including, Autocar Magazine’s: "1995 Car of the Year" and 1995 Car Magazine’s: "Best Designed Car", with Jeremy Clarkson describing it as one of the best sports cars of its time" in 1998.
The Phase 3 version of the GTV featuring uprated cooling, a revised grill, front bumper, interior and badging, was introduced in 2003 and made until 2004, albeit cars were being sold in the UK up until 2006. Only 58 3.2 24Vs Lusso models were registered in the UK, of which just 14 were in this colour Grigio Chiaro Metallic a factory option.
This car registered in the UK in October 2005, is the final and ultimate version of the GTV. It was among the last Alfa Romeos to be fitted with the legendary “Busso” V6 engine, renowned for its lusty performance and epic sound track. It was also Alfa Romeo’s fastest production car at the time, getting from 0 to 60 mph in just over 6 seconds and on to a top speed of 158 mph.
Offered in superb condition this example has been maintained regardless of cost, evidenced by a substantial invoice history file. From the purists point of view, it is as it left the factory, with some nice factory options that include, the aero pack rear wing, 17” “Teledial” alloy wheels and a 10 disc CD autochanger. Only an after market Q2 differential has been fitted, which is a very popular upgrade for these cars, significantly improving road holding and handling over the standard set-up.
The GTV 6 3.2 24V is highly regarded as a modern classic, with values appreciating as collectors recognise its unique blend of style, sound, and performance. It is also ULEZ compliant.
Finding such a low mileage example in this incredible condition and one of the rarest variants ever made, presents a unique opportunity for anyone looking for one of the best and most collectable examples of this beautiful, timeless design.
Finished in its original Grigio Chiaro Metallic (612A), the car presents beautifully with the paintwork in fantastic order. Trim parts, light clusters and badging are also excellent condition and the car shows even panel gaps all round. The car has also been fitted with the factory option aero pack rear spoiler.
As part of the pre-sales preparation the car was professionally detailed and treated to a high end wax finish.
With just 14 UK registered examples and just 2 registered in 2005, this colour really suits the car’s design and makes for a striking alternative to some of GTV’s more common colours, such as Rosso Corsa (red).
The car also comes with its own model specific indoor car cover.
The interior of the car is a lovely place to be. The redesigned seats for the Phase 3 model are stylishly sporting but comfortable and provide plenty of support when pressing on. The black leather on both seats and door cards is in superb condition, as to be expected for a car with such low mileage, with just the merest signs of wear beginning to show on the driver’s side outside seat bolster. The rear seats present as pretty much unused.
The dash layout echoes Alfa Romeo’s of the past, with cowled speedo and rev counter immediately in front of the driver and ancillary dials for water temperature, fuel and clock, mounted in the centre console, all angled towards the driver. The centre console also contains controls for the air conditioning/climate control, the traction control (ASR), front and rear fog lights and the original radio/cd player.
As a Lusso model the car came standard with:
• Power assisted steering
• Electric front windows (one-touch driver's side)
• Driver and passenger front airbags
• Electrically adjustable, heated door mirrors
• Automatic climate control with pollen filter
• Remote central locking, immobiliser and alarm
• Momo leather upholstery
• Leather steering wheel and gear knob
• Front fog lights
• ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) and ASR (Traction Control )
• Stereo radio with single CD player and subwoofer
• FPS fire prevention system
This car also comes with the factory option 10 disc cd autochanger, located in the boot.
Powered by the legendary “Busso” V6 engine, it was described by EVO magazine in August 2011 “as the most glorious-sounding six cylinder road engine ever made”. Classic and Sportscar Magazine also noted it as “the best sounding engine this side of a Maserati V8”. In addition, with its chromed intake manifolds and red cam covers, it’s also a visual treat that never disappoints, when you open the bonnet .
In 3.2 litre 24v guise, it was the last, largest and most powerful version of the factory Busso V6s. Alongside its epic soundtrack it also manages to provide linear power delivery across the rev range, with an intoxicating rush to the 7000 rpm redline. On release, it was the quickest production car Alfa Romeo had ever made and is still the quickest of the 916 GTV model family.
Recent, invoice history, evidences a cam belt, tensioners and water pump service in May this year at 24,477 miles and a new radiator fitted in June at 24,296 miles.
The 6 speed manual gear box is a joy to use having a light direct throw, matched to a light yet progressive clutch pedal. Well thought out gear ratios are well suited to the engines power delivery, allowing for the car to feel both low down torquey, but eager to rev to its redline, with the top speed of 158 mph coming up exactly on its 7000 rpm redline in 6th gear.
Invoice history evidences that the car was fitted with a Q2 differential in 2020 at 23,185 miles. This is a popular upgrade for V6 cars. The Q2 diff not only eliminates the torque steer the original car’s set-up suffered from under hard acceleration, it also significantly improves the car’s road holding and handling over standard. This allows the driver to access more of the car’s fantastic performance, in both real world and track day driving scenarios.
The suspension set-up is standard with MacPherson struts, offset coil springs, lower wishbones and anti-roll bar up front and independent, multi-arm suspension with quadrilateral geometry, coil springs and anti-roll bar, secured to a light alloy sub-frame mounted to the body at the rear. Invoice history evidences front lower wishbones replaced at 21,445 miles and rear bump stops and front strut gaiters replaced in June this year.
The car sits on 17” factory optioned Teledial light weight alloy wheels, in excellent all round condition, fitted with 225/45 R17 tyres all with significant tread. The spare is a space saver.
Brakes are Brembo-system 4 pot callipers matched with 305mm ventilated discs on the front with 2 pot callipers matched with 240mm solid drilled discs at the rear.
Invoice history evidences new front and rear discs and pads at 21,048 miles.
The car comes with original tool kit and jack.
As can be seen from the photos, the underside presents very well and certainly not typical of most GTVs that have been driven in the UK all year round.
As part of the pre-sales preparation, the entire underside, sills, wheel arches as well as all suspension, mechanical and braking componentry, were thoroughly cleaned with any surface corrosion identified, wire-brushed and treated. Then the entire underside and all mechanical componentry were coated with several coats of clear DINITROL automotive rust prevention and corrosion protection treatment.
Finally the rear sub-frame, rear multi-link suspension arms and lower bottom spring-pans, all known areas for corrosion on these cars, were coated with POR 15 anti-rust paint. This chemically bonds to the metal, providing for a extremely hard and durable anti corrosion protective coating for these components. All together, this provides the car with jet-wash resistant, long-term corrosion protection, which improves on the factory finish and is especially important for cars driven all year round in the UK.
The car comes with its current V5C showing just 3 former owners and clear HPI check dated 27th September 2025.
A large collection of MOT certificates dating back to its first issued on 28th December 2007, together with the service book records and extensive invoice history, support the current mileage of 24,556 to be genuine.
The invoice history also evidences the car has been very well maintained, with the service book containing 8 stamps to date and a number of printed invoices for other service, maintenance and parts.
The car come’s with its original dealer pack, containing its service book, owner’s manual, cd multi changer manual, radio code card, dealer pricing booklet, global service provider network booklet, security register booklet and original new vehicle invoice from the supplying dealer, which sets out the vehicle spec and options.
The car comes with 2 sets of keys and alarm fobs, including the important red “master” key.
Finally, please note that the registration number “OO04 LFA”, is not included in the listed sale price. Any purchaser of the car can agree to purchase this registration no. by separate negotiation. Unless otherwise agreed, the car will be sold with its original registration no. WN55 SWW.
