Numerous companies have attempted and failed to dethrone the Land Rover Defender's title of 'best four by four by far', yet none have managed to do so. The original's unique blend of all-terrain capability and robust durability has been a tough challenge to overcome. However, by the time the Defender was launched in 1990, the company had been refining this concept for more than 40 years.
First registered in September 2005 this Land Rover Defender 110 XS TD5 is a smart “top of the range” example of the long-wheelbase Defender, in desirable Tonga Green Metallic and in rare 9 seater station wagon specification. With just 2 former keepers and 83k miles from new, it boasts a full service history (last service in August 2025) and has had over £16k invested in it over the last 8 years alone, in both maintenance and some well-chosen upgrades.
Mechanically, it is equipped with the reliable 5 cylinder 2.5 TD5 engine. In 2019, this engine received an upgrade by way of a JE Motorworks TD5 Stage 2 conversion. This included a larger intercooler, a performance ITG air filter and a remap to the engine’s ECU. This enhancement generally yields 180-190 bhp and around 300 ft/lbs of torque, providing a significant boost compared to the standard engine's 122 bhp and 231 ft/lbs of torque. This translates to a marked improvement in performance, while maintaining fuel economy.
Other upgrades include, tow bar and electrics, uprated sound deadening, electric hand brake conversion, a Startech sports steering wheel, Alpine Radio/CD player with Bluetooth connectivity, USB port and upgraded interior lighting front and rear.
As an XS model it is highly specified from the factory, with front electric windows, heated seats and front and rear heated screens, rear door screen wiper and air conditioning.
With relatively low mileage, backed up by comprehensive service and MOT records and presented in very good overall condition inside and out, this example has also just benefitted from a comprehensive underbody preservation treatment, as part of the pre-sales preparation.
Enhanced with several choice upgrades and with highly regarded all-season usability it would make a highly versatile companion for daily driving, weekend adventures, and workhorse duties alike.
Tonga Green Metallic is a subtle yet sought after colour, especially for the station wagon where it really suits the extra glass and black window surrounds, this variant has.
The overall paintwork is in very good condition for a 20 year old Land Rover, with the odd age related blemish. There is some stone chipping to the bonnet, a small piece missing from the leading edge of the passenger side’s roof guttering and some minor bubbling beginning to appear on the driver’s side rear end, where the cabin top meets the body
All the glass is tinted and in good overall condition.
The rubbers around the side mounted roof windows and front windscreen show some signs of cracking, but remain water tight. All door seals are good, with the rear passenger door seal replaced, as part of the pre-sales preparation.
The car is fitted with a tow bar and electrics and a brand new set of Land Rover mudguards have been fitted front and back. The rear door has a heated rear window and is fitted with a windscreen wiper and washer jet. All lights are free of any cracks or chips and operate as they should.
As the “top of the range” XS model, the interior is part leather and cloth in black and dark grey, with matching charcoal carpets front, middle and in the rear load area. As a 9 seater station wagon, it makes for very versatile seating configurations, with 2 front seats, a bench of 3 split folding middle-row seats and 4 individual drop down chairs in the rear load area. All seats fitted are with inertia reel seat belting.
The seating albeit showing some signs of wear is all in good condition, as are the carpets, protected in the front, middle and rear load area by Land Rover rubber over mats.
The car’s interior benefits from a number of upgrades which include:
As an XS specification model, the car comes standard with electric front windows, heated seats, heated front and rear windscreens, air conditioning. It also has been fitted with an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and separate USB port.
All lights, switches, controls and air conditioning operate as they should.
The car is fitted with the durable 5 cylinder 2.5 litre TD5 engine. In standard tune these engines typically make a maximum of 122 bhp and 221 lb.ft of torque. In 2019, this car benefited from Stage 2 conversion, undertaken by well-known Land Rover specialists JE Motorworks. This conversion incorporates fitment of a larger intercooler, ITG performance air filter and remapped engine ECU. Power output typically increases to 180 to 190 bhp with torque rising to an impressive 300 lb.ft, all achieved without sacrificing fuel economy.
This translates to improved mid-range acceleration, with the most noticeable change being improved acceleration, particularly at mid-range speeds, making overtaking easier. It also provides for more relaxed cruising, feeling less strained at higher speeds and able to maintain momentum more easily in a higher gear.
With just under 83k miles from new the engine runs beautifully, with no smoke either on start up or when running. The car has been meticulously maintained over its life. The service book records 13 service stamps from new, up to 2021, from a mixture of Land Rover dealers and specialists. Service records from 2022 to the most recent carried out in August 2025 (at 83,094 miles) are evidenced by invoices. These join a comprehensive set of service, maintenance, upgrades and parts invoices, dating back to 2008 in the car’s documentary history file.
Invoices from 2017, indicate over 16K has been spent on maintenance and well-chosen upgrades, all great evidence as to the level of care the car has been subject to over its life.
The car comes with all the MOTs it has been issued with, which combined with the service records, support the recorded mileage as accurate.
The car runs in permanent 4 wheel drive and features both high and low ratio as well as a Diff Lock. Together these provide a set of drive combinations designed to cover most situations, the car is likely to encounter both on or off road. The gearbox engages gears as it should and there are no undue noises from the transmission, when the car is being driven.
The rear shocks were replaced in the most recent service in August this year.
The car sits on 16” Boost alloy wheels, with matching 235/85 R16 Continental Cross Contact tyres, all with significant tread left. The spare is identical to the driven wheels and is unused.
Brakes are discs are fitted all round and operate as they should, with the standard hand brake having been replaced by an electrically operated system.
The car comes with its original jack and wheel brace, as well its locking wheel nut socket.
As part of the pre-sales preparation, the entire underside was cleaned down and inspected.
The chassis was found to be solid, but with areas of surface corrosion in a few places and the bulk head was corrosion free. However, the rear cross member (underneath the middle row of seats) was suffering quite significant corrosion, so it was replaced.
Any areas of surface corrosion on the chassis or mechanical components, were then wire brushed and treated with a rust converter.
The internal box sections of the chassis were then cavity waxed with Dinitrol ML Cavity wax and all chassis, floor pans and mechanical components on the cars underside, were coated with Buzz Weld’s Zero Prep 402

Zero Prep 402 is super tough, long lasting clear anti-corrosion coating, that “dries”, which means it resists dirt and muck that hold moisture sticking to it and any which does can be easily cleaned off with a jet wash. As such, this treatment is both easy to maintain and durable, with Buzz Weld’s customers seeing close to 5 years longevity.
As such, the underside preservation treatment provides the car with a comprehensive and exceptionally durable, jet wash proof corrosion protection, even if used all year round or off road, as most Land Rovers find themselves from time to time.
The documented history folder, contains the registration document, which lists the vehicle as having just 2 previous owners. It also contains a clear Total Vehicle Check dated 20/10/2025.
The folder contains every MOT certificate the car has been issued with, since its first, in 2008.
The folder also contains a comprehensive collection of invoices for parts, maintenance and upgrades dating from 2008 to the current date and includes the most recent service invoices carried out in 2022, 2023, 2024 and August this year.
The car comes with its original Land Rover book pack, which comes with several booklets, including the owners hand book and service book which contains, 13 stamps to 2021 and 69,753 miles.
Finally, the vehicle comes with 2 sets of keys.
